We had hoped it was over. We somehow believed that with the arrival of vaccines we could quickly resume life as we once knew it.

Instead, we discovered that while vaccines and masks protected us from the virus, they were powerless against the trepidation, suspicion, fear and distrust that lingered even beyond the boosters.

The incubation period for normal was a long one. Lasting almost a year.

This project, a sequel to earlier pandemic project Somewhere Along the Curve, documented the strangeness of 2021 – what life felt like to many of us – as the pandemic began to slow down, yet never quite departed.
